I was one of the few Romanians that watched TED PRIZE 2009 live (i guess) because it was on 5 feb from 3:00AM till 6:00AM (in USA was 5PM).

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design (ted.com). It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Today, TED is therefore best thought of as a global community formed by:

The TED Conference, held annually in Long Beach, is still the heart of TED. More than a thousand people now attend — indeed, the event sells out a year in advance — and the content has expanded to include science, business, the arts and the global issues facing our world.

TEDGlobal is a sister conference held every other year, and in a different country on each occasion.

TEDTalks began as a simple attempt to share what happens at TED with the world. Under the moniker “ideas worth spreading,” talks were released online. From the video’s (talks) i recommend you to watch: Patrick Awuah on “Educating leaders“, David S. Rose on “10 things to know before you pitch a VC for money“, David Carson on “Design, discovery and humor“, Tony Robbins on “Why we do what we do“, Keith Barry on “brain magic” and many more…

And the one that i want to talk about, The TED Prize is designed to leverage the TED Community’s exceptional array of talent and resources. It is awarded annually to three exceptional individuals who each receive $100,000 and, much more important, the granting of “One Wish to Change the World.” After several months of preparation, they unveil their wish at an award ceremony held during the TED Conference. These wishes have led to collaborative initiatives with far-reaching impact.

The videos from TED.com  are amazing, grate people and grate ideas .. make u talk about them with your friends, post them on your blog, and even try to make similar conferences in your society.

So… I watched TED PRIZE 2009 live.. and i was disappointed. My problems are:

I. The wish of Jill Tarter – “I wish that you would empower Earthlings everywhere to become active participants in the ultimate search for cosmic company.”  aaaaaaaaaa whaaaaaaat? so we really don’t have something else better? Who toked the decision of putting this wish the first from 2009?- last year(2008) we had Dave Eggers’ Wish about education, Karen Armstrong’s Wish about Religion and Neil Turok’s Wish about a Nobel prize from Africa … wonderful wishes .. the other two from this year are Sylvia Earle’s Wish about “Marine protected areas in oceans” an José Abreu’s Wish about “gifted young musicians” … also grate wishes… why searching for life in space?? I understand that from long time ago Americans are fascinated about UFO … etc… but from this to invest time, money (100.000$ was the prize and TED will invest another 1 mil $ in these 3 wishes) and a lot of human resources … WHY?

II. Video Transmission – i had no problem with receiving.. but the transmission from TED(location in Long Beach) to server was interrupted many times… also… the transmission from Venezuela when José Abreu (3th Wish) talked was devastating … minutes of a high sound and a background from communist era. Even at football game we have better transmission :D .

III. How can be possible when u have in conferences very good speakers to have a Chris Anderson (TED Curator) that doesn’t know to manage an audience .. the audience was supposed to tell how they can help and how they want to involve in achieving the wishes … Chris was in plus on the stage..  All the time he was “out of time” hurrying the speakers and the audience .. he even forgot .. to show/award the TED PRIZE (a superb globe statue) to Sylvia Earle.. he just send it off the stage back in public :) ) .. He had only 3 important people .. the winners ..

Maybe i had to many expectations from TED people…

In the end i invite u to watch Richard St. John: Secrets of success in 8 words, 3 minutes ….

Later: it passed more than 5 days and people from TED still didn’t put any videos with Wishes from the ceremony on www.tedprize.org :(

I don’t know for sure how “leapşa” is translated in English.. i saw somewhere “tag”.. so…

I received a “leapşa” from Cristina .. she received it from Tudor… i saw it also at Bogdan .. that started long time ago … and sound like this:

1. Go to the 4th folder in your computer where you store your pictures.
2. Pick the 4th picture in that folder.
3. Explain the picture.
4. Tag people to do the same!

Because my computer is broke for a wile (i’m on other computer)and i can’t  go to my folder with pictures..  i think i know where i have more folders with pictures of mine .. on HI5 :) ))

so … here is my picture..

U can enter on my HI5 account and verify … here … i was a little surprise because in that folder are old pictures.. about 3-4 years ago..

The picture is taken at “Soimos” Citadel in Radna … a small place near Arad. In the picture i’m with Flavia(my girlfrend at that time) and a friend of her (don’t remember the name). We are on one of the citadel’s towers enjoing the view.

I send the “leapşa” further to Catalina and Alin

Ps: Cristina… i hope ur satisfied :P
